Mark Richt reveals player suspension because a fan asked him about it

Do we need to start having an embedded fan at all coach press conferences to get some revealing answers?

Georgia sophomore kicker Marshall Morgan missed their week 1 loss to Clemson and will also miss Georgia's game on Saturday against South Carolina because of a suspension that Richt revealed on Wednesday. Why did he reveal it on Wednesday despite avoiding the topic until then? Well, a fan called in to his weekly radio show and asked him about it.

From The Red & Black:

"Because I told [Georgia football SID] Claude [Felton] if someone asked me on my call-in show I’m going to tell them,” Richt said. “And if they didn’t I wasn’t going to say anything so I just left it up to the callers.”

There you have it. It's an interesting bit of logic by Richt, and, frankly, it really doesn't make sense. The media covering the team who have asked Richt the question before his weekly radio show are covering the team to inform the fans. Yes, Richt may look like he's more of a fan-friendly coach by revealing the answer directly to a fan on a call-in show, but avoiding a topic for a while isn't the most fan-friendly thing in the first place.

Oh, and we're totally kidding about having fans in press conferences. We don't need someone sobbing while trying to ask a question.
