Cincinnati might have lost senior quarterback Munchie Legaux for an extended period of time when he suffered what appeared to be a major leg injury Saturday in the fourth quarter of the Bearcats' 45-17 loss to Illinois.
Legaux had just thrown a pass when was hit by two Illini defenders converging on him in the pocket. He remained on the field for several minutes and was surrounded by teammates and coaches before eventually being loaded on a cart and taken from the field.
Losing Legaux obviously would be a huge blow to Cincinnati because of his experience and talent, but the Bearcats do have another experienced signal-caller serving as Legaux's backup. Senior Brendon Kay has played in numerous games over the past two seasons and had been on the field today even before Legaux's injury.
Legaux completed 17 of 31 passes in the game for 237 yards with a touchdown pass and an interception. He also ran 11 times for 52 yards. Kay completed six of 11 passes for 71 yards. Kay also has proven in the past he can make plays with his feet.
