Jaborian McKenzie, along with three other then-Vanderbilt teammates, was charged with five counts of aggravated rape and two counts of sexual battery on August 9 for an incident involving an unconscious woman in June.
After McKenzie, Brandon Vandenburg, Brandon Banks and Corey Batey were dismissed from the team after the June 29 incident, McKenzie transferred to Alcorn State and played in the school's 51-7 loss to Mississippi State in week two.
After the charges on August 9, McKenzie, nicknamed "Tip" posted a $50,000 bond and was released on August 10.
The Nashville Post found that while McKenzie wasn't on the roster of Alcorn State, he was listed in this game recap on the school's website. He returned three kickoffs for 80 yards.
McKenzie's father played basketball at Alcorn State. He was eligible to transfer immediately because Alcorn State is an FCS school.
While we see McKenzie's desire to continue his playing career as soon as possible, this is an instance where pragmatism should take over. Given the severity of the charges, its imprudent that McKenzie's college career is continuing while he's currently charged. Both he and Alcorn State should have come to the conclusion that it'd be best for both the player and the school that he can join the team if he is able to after the conclusion of the legal case.
On the list of things more important than football, this is pretty high up there.
