The University of Texas has denied a Friday afternoon report that athletic director DeLoss Dodds will retire at the end of the year.
OrangeBloods.com reported that Dodds would move into a consulting role at the end of 2013 and leave his post as athletic director. The report cited two "high-ranking" sources that said Dodds would step down to ensure that his successor would be able to make any new coaching hires.
In the report, Texas spokesperson Nick Voinis is quoted as saying "Whoever is saying that is wrong."

Earlier this week, Dodds said that he didn't have any immediate plans regarding his future and reiterated his support for coach Mack Brown, who's received scrutiny for the Longhorns' performance in their 40-21 loss to BYU. Brown fired defensive coordinator Manny Diaz after the game and replaced him with Greg Robinson.
Dodds has been a long-time supporter of Brown, and any change at the top could also affect Brown's status as coach of the team.
One other interesting nugget from the OrangeBlooods report: according to the story, Dodds has recommended current Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby as a possible successor. Any rumors of Bowlsby making the move from the conference to the school would only intensify the perception of many that Texas has too much influence within the conference.
