One of the feel-good stories of an otherwise ho-hum day of college football Saturday came from the Washington Huskies in their 56-0 rout of Idaho State.
Fourth-year junior running back Deontae Cooper scored the first touchdown of his career on a 4-yard run up the middle in the fourth quarter. What makes the touchdown so significant is that Cooper overcame three torn knee ligaments and three season-ending surgeries in each of the past three seasons to finally return to the field and make an impact.
"It felt great," Cooper said in an interview with the Pac-12 Network. "A reminder of why I didn't make the wrong decision by coming to the University of Washington. A lot of great support through coaches, teammates, trainers, the fans, and most importantly, it was just a great feeling."
It didn't appear to be a token touchdown in a blowout win. Cooper ran 14 times for 59 yards and said he's hungry for more after all his hard work to get back.
