The car accident that killed Cincinnati offensive lineman Ben Flick this past weekend has also claimed the driver.

Sean VanDyne, an 18-year-old Miami (Ohio) student, succumbed to his injuries at University of Cincinnati Medical Center on Monday night.

VanDyne, who recently married his high school sweetheart, was one of four freshmen involved in the single-car crash. Cincinnati receivers Mark Barr and Javon Harrison also were passengers. Barr is still listed in critical condition and Harrison was released from the hospital. Flick died at the scene.

The four young men were driving back from the Cincinnati-Miami (Ohio) football game Saturday evening when the car ran off the road. Two men were thrown from the vehicle while two others were trapped inside. Alcohol may have played a role in the crash that is still under investigation.

In a statement, VanDyne’s family said VanDyne and Flick had been best friends since the 2nd grade and were like brothers.
