Sorry Florida fans, Will Muschamp isn’t going anywhere.
Following last week’s 26-20 loss to FCS Georgia Southern at the Swamp, the pitchforks and torches were out in an effort to get Muschamp removed as the Gators’ coach.
But the Orlando Sentinel, citing a Florida official, stated Muschamp would be back for the 2014 season. Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley said Nov. 9, following the 34-17 loss to Vanderbilt, that he gave Muschamp his “1,000 percent” backing. UF senior administrator Steve McClain told the Orlando Sentinel on Sunday that Foley stands by that endorsement.
However, the story also says changes will be made to the Florida staff following the season finale against Florida State.
The Gators are in the midst of s six-game losing streak that included last week’s debacle against Georgia Southern. It was the Gators first loss to an FCS team and its first loss to any team from a lower division since the late 70s. It also marked the Gators’ first losing season since 1979.
Muschamp has been on the hot seat almost all season, but not everything that has happened to the Gators this season has been his fault. The Gators suffered season-ending injuries to key starters, which caused the Gators to struggle early and they were never able to get traction.
Now, Florida heads into its annual rivalry game against No. 2 Florida State, which has the potential to be one of the most lopsided games in the series history. Florida State beat Florida 31-7 in 2010, which is the largest FSU margin of victory since 1977.
