After a bowl drought that lasted over a decade, the Tulane Green Wave will finally go bowling this year.
The University announced Tuesday that they have accepted an invitation to play in the 2013 R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl against Louisiana-Lafayette (8-3, 5-1 Sun Belt), Tulane’s first bowl game since 2002. The game will take place at the Superdome in New Orleans, Tulane’s home field, on Dec. 21 at 9 p.m.
The Green Wave (7-5, 5-3 C-USA) are coming off back-to-back two win seasons, but rebounded with seven wins to finish over .500 for the first time since 2002.
"We are grateful for the opportunity for our young men and coaches to participate in this hometown event that will kick-off the 2013 bowl season," Tulane Director of Athletics Rick Dickson said in a statement. "This is a great reward for a successful campaign and it is great that our team can finish in front of friends, family and our fans."
Curtis Johnson, in his second season as Tulane head coach, said his team is excited about playing another game in the Superdome.
"This game is a great reward for the hard work and dedication our coaches and players have demonstrated throughout the 2013 season. We look forward to playing an in-state opponent and cannot wait to begin our bowl preparations," Johnson said.
