Update: In a press release, Washington has confirmed the Petersen hire.

"On behalf of the University of Washington and the entire Husky Nation, I am proud to welcome Chris Petersen as our new head football coach," Washington athletic director Scott Woodward said. "Coach Petersen's success and record are extraordinary, but even more impressive is the man himself. His integrity, work ethic and character make him an outstanding fit and leader of our student-athletes at UW. We are thrilled and proud to call Coach Petersen a Husky."

Washington has reportedly found its replacement for Steve Sarkisian. ESPN’s Joe Schad was the first to report Friday morning that the Huskies are expected to name Boise State’s Chris Petersen as its new head coach.

According to Schad, the agreement between Washington and Petersen will make Petersen one of the highest paid coaches in the Pac-12. According to CBS's Jeremy Fowler, the deal is for five years.

The news of Petersen’s move to Washington comes just four days after former UW head coach Steve Sarkisian was hired to be the new head coach at USC.

Petersen, who was also a candidate at USC, compiled a 92-12 overall record in eight seasons as the Broncos head coach, including an undefeated season in 2006 that concluded with a Fiesta Bowl victory over Oklahoma.

Neither school has officially announced the hire.
