There was no doubt Florida State would beat Duke in the ACC title game, it was just a matter of by how much.
The Seminoles won 45-7 to finish 13-0 for the first time in school history and earned a chance to play for a national championship.
Florida State handled Duke the way it’s handled almost every other team on its schedule this season – with relative ease. There was no suspense; the game was never in doubt.
Quarterback Jameis Winston, the Heisman frontrunner, didn’t have a great game, but did little to harm his chances of hoisting the bronze statue next Saturday.
Florida State’s pre-bowl season wrapped up with a nice little bow.
But there’s still excitement on the horizon.
The matchup many wanted to see – Florida State and Auburn – will happen thanks to Michigan State’s 34-24 win against Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship. The victory knocked the Buckeyes from their coveted No. 2 ranking in the BCS standings, sliding Auburn, the SEC champs, into their spot.
Sadly, that game is still a month away, but it’s the last obstacle to what could end up a dream season for the Seminoles, who have proven they're back among college football’s power programs.
