The house that Memphis running back Brandon Hayes was renting in Memphis was damaged in a fire that happened while the team was playing its final game of the year at UConn. But thanks to the generosity of fans, the items that were lost in the fire are being replaced for him.
In fact, fans were so generous that the NCAA limit on gifts was reached. The sanctioning body approved gifts to replaced the items lost in the fire, primarily clothes and furniture. (Otherwise, you know, if it wasn't approved, Hayes could lose his eligibility.)
Per the AP, Hayes' landlord is also going to have the unit fixed or another available when he comes back to campus for the start of the spring semester.
Hayes ran for 860 yards this season as a senior after running for 576 yards last season. He eclipsed the 100-yard barrier against Arkansas State and Tennessee-Martin.
Earlier this week, Southern Miss gave each of its departing seniors a suit for future job interviews.
