Remember the Syracuse blog raising money to send kids from a local YMCA to the Texas Bowl that we mentioned on Monday?
Their goal was $12,000 to send 200 kids to the game between Syracuse and Minnesota. They made it easily. So easily, in fact, that the blog Troy Nunes is an Absolute Magician had to cut off donations at $44,444.44. Yes, you read that correctly. And they even surpassed it.
Thanks to a $44.44 donation, we have met and surpassed our goal of $44,444.44 for #CuseTixForKids pic.twitter.com/7On7Ctf6sG

After seeing the response the blog post generated, the Texas Bowl discounted the price of the tickets to $20, which means that over 1,000 kids will be going to the bowl game.
Plus, they'll be receiving a Syracuse t-shirt, a voucher for food and drink and a Sonic Slush. The kids are from the Houston Texans YMCA (the Texans run the Houston Bowl, which is at Reliant Stadium) and Depelchin Children's Center. It probably didn't hurt that Syracuse coach Scott Shafer even personally tweeted a plea for donations.
Please help make Christmas great for these kids! “Hey Syracuse Fans, Let's Send 200 Kids To The @TexasBowl http://t.co/R1j6dXqxKv” — Coach Scott Shafer (@Coach_Shafer) December 17, 2013
Well done, internet. The kids are going to likely have a great time regardless, but here's to hoping that Syracuse and Minnesota give them an entertaining game that they won't forget.
