A photographer for The Associated Press was taking photos of Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin following the conclusion of the Chick-Fil-A Bowl when he collapsed and later died.

Dave Martin, 59, suffered what the AP said was an apparent heart attack and was administered CPR and taken to an Atlanta-area hospital where he was pronounced dead early on Wednesday.

From the AP:

Martin suffered an apparent heart attack and was administered CPR on the field, according to a statement from the Georgia Dome. He was placed on a stretcher and taken to Emory Hospital Midtown where he died early Wednesday morning, the statement said.

Martin became the AP's regional photo editor for the South in 2004. Per the AP, he took photos during Hurricane Katrina, Super Bowls, Olympics and conflicts abroad. He's survived by his wife and two children.

According to the AP, Martin was well-known for always managing to get himself in the perfect position to take the shot of winning athletes dousing their coach with water or Gatorade. He did just that on Tuesday after Texas A&M's 52-48 win over Duke, capturing Aggies coach Kevin Sumlin getting dunked with water as one of his final photos.
