Two more of the country’s top wide receivers announced that they will enter the 2014 NFL Draft Thursday as Texas A&M’s Mike Evans and Penn State’s Allen Robinson announced their intentions.
Evans, a redshirt sophomore, was a first-team All-SEC and a consensus All-American selection in 2013. At 6-foot-5 and 225 pounds, Evans used his lethal combination of size and speed to terrorize defenses and set school records. He caught 69 passes for a school record 1,394 yards and 12 touchdowns this year after catching 82 passes for 1,105 yards and five touchdowns in 2012.
“Thanks go to Texas A&M for giving me an opportunity to play college football. Thanks also go to my coaches and teammates for helping me develop as a player and as a man. I made this decision based on what I thought was best for myself and my family,” Evans said in a release.
In addition to setting school records for receiving yards and touchdowns in a season, Evans also set a school record with 279 yards receiving against Alabama. A few weeks later, Evans broke his own record by posting a 287-yard performance against Auburn.
Robinson, a junior, also set records during his time at Penn State. He was named the Big Ten Receiver of the Year in 2012 and 2013 and earned seven different All-America honors after the 2013 season. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Robinson set Penn State records in 2013 with 97 catches and 1,432 yards while also hauling in six touchdowns. As a sophomore in 2012, Robinson caught 77 passes for 1,018 yards and 11 touchdowns.
“It was a great honor to play at Penn State,” Robinson said in a release. “I am blessed to have played with, and for, the people in the Penn State football program. This is a decision that I believe is best for my family and I, and I wish all the best to the University and all my teammates.”
After barely playing as a freshman, Robinson now ranks second in Penn State history with 177 receptions and third in school history with 2,474 yards.
