Bobby Petrino won’t be the only new face on the Louisville football team when Spring practice starts.
According to multiple reports former Penn State quarterback Tyler Ferguson is transferring to Louisville. Ferguson originally intended to transfer to Western Kentucky, but when Petrino made his return to Louisville, Ferguson followed.
"After he got the job at Louisville, he called me very shortly after that," Ferguson told ESPN.com's Josh Moyer. "So yeah, I'm going out there to Louisville now."
Ferguson told Moyer that he plans to be on Louisville's campus on Sunday and start classes on Monday.
"[Petrino] was the first to reach out to me when I got my release from Penn State," Ferguson said. "He said if he got the Louisville job. he still wanted to get me."
Ferguson announced his intent to transfer following the season after being beaten out for the starting spot by five-star freshman Christian Hackenberg. He was the No. 2 quarterback on Penn State’s deoth chart for the season and completed 10-of-15 passes for 155 yards and a touchdown in mop-up duty.
Ferguson started his college career at College of the Sequoias in Visalia, California and transferred to Penn State after initially verbally committing to play at Houston.
Ferguson will be forced to sit out the 2014 season per the NCAA transfer rules. He will have two years of eligibility starting in 2015.
