South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney took a page from A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel and used his Instagram account to thank Gamecock fans for their support during his time with the program.
Clowney said prior to the Gamecocks’ 34-24 win against Wisconsin in the Capital One Bowl that he would declare for the 2014 NFL draft.
Prior to the season, Clowney was not only one of the top contenders for the Heisman Trophy but also the early favorite for the first pick in the NFL draft. However, injuries, lax play, varying issues with his head coach and a couple speeding tickets derailed the Heisman plans and might have affected his draft status.
Clowney finished the year with 41 tackles and just three sacks.
Still, Clowney is considered one of the top defensive players in the draft and a strong combine coupled by some good individual workouts could put him back at or near the top of the draft board.
Earlier this week, Manziel used the TexAgs.com website to write a letter to fans thanking him for his time with the Aggies.
