Larry Johnson isn’t the only defensive assistant Urban Meyer has reportedly added to his staff at Ohio State.
According to Sports Illustrated’s Pete Thamel, Arkansas defensive coordinator Chris Ash has accepted a position to return to the Big Ten as co-defensive coordinator and secondary coach of the Buckeyes. According to Thamel, the deals for Johnson and Ash are will be formally announced “later this week.”
Ash spent last season at in the SEC under Bret Bielema at Arkansas and previously coached under Bielema at Wisconsin from 2010-2012. Ash coached the defensive backs at Iowa State and San Diego State before landing at Wisconsin where he was also co-defensive coordinator in addition to his duties with the defensive backs.
Ohio State was ranked 110th in the country in passing yards allowed, so the Buckeyes’ secondary could use a boost moving forward. The hires of Ash and Johnson complete Ohio State’s coaching staff for the 2014 season.
