The biggest hiring coup of the season now belongs to Georgia.
The Bulldogs have hired Jeremy Pruitt as their next defensive coordinator. Pruitt was the defensive coordinator for Florida State during its national championship run this past season.
Pruitt replaces Todd Grantham, who resigned Sunday to take the same position at Louisville.
Pruitt joined Florida State last season and led the Seminoles to a No. 3 national ranking in total defense and No. 1 national ranking in scoring defense.
However, Pruitt’s move to the SEC isn’t a huge surprise considering that’s where he started his career. In 2007, he joined Alabama as a grad assistant and from 2010-12 he served as the Tide’s defensive backfield coach. Under his leadership, Alabama ranked in the top 10 nationally in pass efficiency defense, the top 15 in pass defense and the top five in total defense and scoring defense.
Pruitt made about $540,000 annually with the Seminoles, but expect that number to rise. Grantham made $850,000 with the Bulldogs last season.
