Arkansas State defensive lineman Markel Owens was shot and killed Wednesday night, according to the university.
Owens, a 21-year-old junior, was one of two people killed in a shooting in Jackson, Tenn., around 9:30 p.m. A woman was injured, treated at the hospital, and released.

Jackson police were still combing the Walker Road area late Wednesday night for the person who shot into the home.
Police would not give details about the victims. But a neighbor said the house where the shooting happened was occupied by a man, his wife and college-age son and that all were injured.
Lt. Shane Beaver said Wednesday night that police could not confirm the age of the victims. He said authorities were investigating reports that the shooter was also injured and may have been en route to a hospital.
Owens played in 11 games for the Red Wolves last season.
It's like losing one of my brothers. You always were looking out for me. Love you @Oskie2Real one of the best teammates I've ever had...RIP — Brian Davis (@Brian_Davis02) January 16, 2014
