Georgia starting safety Josh Harvey-Clemons was suspended for the Gator Bowl for a violation of team rules, and now the Atlanta Journal-Constitution is reporting that the suspension will carry over and keep Harvey-Clemons off the field for the first three games of the 2014 season.
Harvey-Clemons reportedly violated Georgia’s marijuana-use policy for a second time, resulting in a four-game suspension per student-athlete disciplinary guidelines. After the initial suspension was announced, Harvey-Clemons’ grandfather told the Journal-Constitution that his grandson’s suspension was “academically related and would not carry over to next season.”
Harvey-Clemons admitted to UGA police last February that he smoked marijuana in his dorm room along with teammate Ty Flournoy-Smith. Flournoy-Smith, who had prior trouble with the law, was dismissed from the team after the incident. Harvey-Clemons was suspended for one game and missed the 2013 season opener at Clemson.
Harvey-Clemons will now again miss a season opener – again against Clemson – and will also miss a home game against Troy and the conference opener at South Carolina on Sept. 13.
Harvey-Clemons started 11 games for the Bulldogs last year and was third on the team with 66 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, five pass break-ups and one interception.
