South Florida starting cornerback Kenneth Durden was arrested Saturday night at his on-campus residency for possession of 21.7 grams of marijuana – a third-degree felony.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, University police were called to Durden’s on-campus residence after receiving a “complaint of possible drug use.” An officer smelled an odor of marijuana and was given permission to enter by Durden, who “acknowledged to having the substance in his room.”

Durden pulled out a clear bag of marijuana that was later weighed by police to contain 21.7 grams. In the state of Florida, possession of more than 20 grams is a third-degree felony.

Durden, a redshirt sophomore, started 11 games for the Bulls this past season and made 32 tackles and registered one interception.

“We are aware of the situation and in the process of collecting information,” USF spokesman Brian Siegrist said.

Durden is one of several FBS players to face trouble for marijuana possession this offseason. Texas A&M linebacker Darian Claiborne missed the Chick-Fil-A Bowl after being arrested on Dec. 22, Missouri wideout Dorial Green-Beckham was arrested on Jan. 10 for a possession charge, but he was not formally charged, and Georgia safety Josh Harvey-Clemons will miss the first three games of 2014 for a second marijuana violation.
