Ohio State redshirt freshman tight end Marcus Baugh’s career with the Buckeyes may be over less than a year after stepping on campus after being charged for underage drinking on Jan. 17 – his second underage drinking charge since July.
The 6-foot-4 tight end redshirted in 2013 and was hit with a one-game suspension to start the year after his first offense in July led to a guilty plea for underage drinking and carrying a fake ID. The latest charge has resulted in an indefinite suspension from Ohio State, according to ElevenWarriors.com.
Eleven Warriors is also reporting that the incident is actually Baugh’s third underage drinking charge. An OSU spokesman told the website that he was not aware of the most recent incident.
Baugh, a native of Riverside, Calif., came to Columbus as a heralded four-star recruit. According to Rivals, Baugh was the sixth best tight end in the Class of 2013 and the No. 148 overall prospect from that class.
With Ohio State still operating under NCAA sanctions and limited to 82 scholarships instead of the usual 85, Doug Lesmerises of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer writes that it is “reasonable to believe Baugh’s future at Ohio State may be in question.”
Besides Baugh, Ohio State has three other scholarship tight ends returning next season: seniors Jeff Heuerman and J.T. Moore and junior Nick Vannett.
