The 2014 season is still seven months away, but it is never too early to think about the candidates for the Heisman Trophy. The oddsmakers at Bovada out in Las Vegas have already tabulated the early odds of favorites to win next year’s award. There are some surprising names mentioned, but those who have the best odds of winning are the usual candidates.

Of course, Florida State quarterback and reigning winner Jameis Winston is the favorite at 2/1 odds. Other returning quarterbacks Marcus Mariota (7/2) and Braxton Miller (4/1) are also among the favorites. There are a few under the radar names mentioned, including Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson, who will return to the Fighting Irish after withdrawing from school because of an academic violation.

The Heisman is always tough to project – especially this far from the season’s start. Dark horse candidates who were relatively unknown can always burst onto the scene and into the Heisman conversation as well.

Here is the complete list, per Bovada:

Jameis Winston – QB – Florida State: 2/1

Marcus Mariota – QB – Oregon: 7/2

Braxton Miller – QB – Ohio State: 4/1

T.J. Yeldon – RB – Alabama: 5/1

Bryce Petty – QB – Baylor: 6/1

Brett Hundley – QB – UCLA: 12/1

Todd Gurley – RB – Georgia: 12/1

Mike Davis – RB – South Carolina: 15/1

Melvin Gordon – RB – Wisconsin: 16/1

Everett Golson – QB – Notre Dame: 25/1

Trevor Knight – QB – Oklahoma: 25/1

Duke Johnson – RB – Miami: 33/1
