Could James Franklin get some motivational speech tips from President Barack Obama Tuesday night?
The Penn State coach will be in attendance for the president's State of the Union Address as a guest of Pennsylvania U.S. Rep. Glenn Thompson. Thompson is a Penn State alum.
"With the beginning of a new year, we are filled with a sense of optimism and possibility. The State of the Union offers us the chance to reflect upon the previous year and provides us with a preview of the challenges and opportunities that we face together,” Thompson said in a release. “Given these sentiments, it’s an honor to have Coach Franklin as my guest for this occasion."
Yes, it seems that everyone associated with Penn State is extremely optimistic about Franklin's tenure. He really is the darling of PSU since officially arriving on campus on Jan. 11. And the invitation to Tuesday's address explains the incredibly sharp suit that Franklin was wearing to get coffee Tuesday morning.
If the wave that Franklin's riding on continues to rise, the next time he's in the same building with the president could be at the White House for a congratulatory College Football Playoff win instead of the U.S. Capitol. If you thought he was popular in State College now, imagine his status if he wins Penn State's first national title since 1986.
