TCU's Devonte Fields told police that he was robbed and beaten at his residence Tuesday morning.

According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Fields said that he was attacked by three robbers outside of his place at 5:50 a.m. The incident involved gunfire, as officers found five .40-caliber casings in the yard.

However, Fields does not want to press charges.

From the Star-Telegram:

Fields later told police that he did not want officers to look inside his residence and that “he did not want to press charges,” the report said.

The former standout player at Arlington Martin High School was “examined for injuries by TCU athletic personnel” but was not hospitalized, according to the police report.

Coach Gary Patterson issued a brief statement late Tuesday.

“Devonte Fields is a victim here, and he’s okay,” Patterson said. “He went to class and workouts today.”

Fields said that he was hit in the head and punched in the left cheek area. He told police that one of the men pointed a gun at him and threatened him. The five shots were “were discharged in the air” but no one was hit, according to the police report.

When Fort Worth police officers met Fields at TCU police offices to search his residence, Fields changed his mind and said that he didn't want his house searched. Fields reported that a phone, hats, a pair of shoes and an XBox was stolen.

Fields was suspended for the first two games of 2013 by Patterson in May. Because of a broken foot, he only ended up playing parts of two games in 2013. He announced in October that he planned to seek a medical redshirt.

As a freshman in 2012, he had 10 sacks and 18.5 tackles for loss.
