Former Vanderbilt quarterback Austyn Carta-Samuels is trying to calm the Commodores fan base.

With a week until national signing day, Vanderbilt has nine total recruits, according to Rivals.com, and has the worst class in the SEC. But Carta-Samuels took to Twitter on Wednesday to caution fans not to get too discouraged by what could be a pretty tough signing day.

Vanderbilt’s recruiting took a severe hit when coach James Franklin left the program for Penn State. Among the players who have decommitted from the program is Carta-Samuels’ brother, K.J. K.J. Carta-Samuels is a four-star quarterbacking recruit, who opened up his recruitment after Franklin left. He committed to Washington last week.

Vanderbilt, which has had consecutive 9-4 seasons, has ranked ninth in the SEC in recruiting each of the past two years. New coach Derek Mason will eventually have the ability to bring the Commodores’ recruiting back up, but it’s going to be difficult, especially with limited time, to do it this year.
