Man working on construction of Baylor’s new stadium dies after falling into Brazos River

A construction worker on the crew building Baylor's new football stadium died Tuesday after the equipment he was harnessed to fell from a floating dock.

Jose Dario Suarez, 55, fell into the Brazos River along with another man. The other man was able to swim to safety and was treated for hypothermia.

According to the AP, Suarez's body was recovered at 8 p.m. Tuesday. He was working on a footbridge at the new McLane Stadium.

McLane Stadium is being built next to the Brazos. It is named for former Houston Astros owner Drayton McLane and is replacing Floyd Casey Stadium, which hosted its last football game in 2013.

The stadium, which is expected to be complete for the 2014 season, will hold 45,000 people and is being built at a cost of $250 million. It's approximately twice the square footage of Floyd Casey Stadium.

Baylor announced that the new stadium would be named for McLane in December. The Bears went to the first (and only) BCS bowl game in school history on Jan. 1 against Central Florida, losing 52-42.
