The Texas A&M Board of Regents approved the plans for a $16 million upgrade of the Aggies’ locker room, training facilities, meeting rooms and coaches’ offices Thursday.

According a release from the school, the project’s goal is to modernize the first and third floor of the 11-year old Bright Football Complex.

“We appreciate the support of the Board of Regents, University administration and Aggies everywhere,” Texas A&M Director of Athletics Eric Hyman said. “The sincere commitment to excellence from everyone associated with Texas A&M is apparent. This project will continue to help us recruit outstanding student-athletes, as well as provide a first-class experience for our current student-athletes and coaches.”

The 48,600 square foot project includes “new finishes, graphics, office space, furniture and the latest technology,” the release said. Additionally, Hagner Auditorium – where full-team meetings are held – will also receive an update.

The construction for the project will begin “as soon as possible.” The first floor is expected to be completed by fall 2014 and the third floor should be finished by summer 2015.

The school’s $450 million renovation of Kyle Field is already well under way. Since joining the SEC in late 2011, the school has also added a new weight room, a nutrition center, and a renovated lobby.

With Kevin Sumlin at the helm, the Aggies have flourished both on the field -- going 20-6 in Sumlin’s two seasons – and in recruiting. Currently, the A&M 2014 class is ranked third in the nation by Rivals, and these updated facilities certainly help when it comes to recruiting.
