An Alabama pledge has flipped his commitment to Central Florida.
Yes, you read that correctly.
Chris Williams, a Rivals three-star safety from Kingsland, Georgia, committed to play for Georgia O’Leary and the Knights on Tuesday according to Andrew Bone.
The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Williams originally committed to the Crimson Tide last March, but he took an official visit to Central Florida this past weekend. It is more common for recruits to flip to the Crimson Tide, but apparently Williams liked his visit to Orlando enough to make the switch just a day before national signing day.
Williams took his official visit to Alabama the weekend of Jan. 17 and had an in-home visit from head coach Nick Saban and Kirby Smart last week.
Welton Coffey, Williams’ coach at Camden County High School, told the Orlando Sentinel Friday night that he thought there was a good chance the versatile Williams would flip to UCF.
“He’s a definitely a playmaker and there is no question about that,” Coffey said. “He’s phenomenal as far as his running ability and he’s always in the right place at the right time. He has great return ability, as far as kickoffs and punts. Things just seem to happen when Chris is on the field.”
Williams also had offers from Ole Miss and Ohio State and is rated as the No. 40 overall safety in the nation by Rivals.
