One of the best parts of the culmination of the recruiting period and national signing day is the quirky recruiting stories that emerge. One of the best from this year came from Nebraska four-star lineman Tanner Farmer.
According to Rivals, Farmer is the top-rated recruit -- No. 82 in the country – in Nebraska’s class, so Cornhuskers coach Bo Pelini made sure to do all he could to secure Farmer’s signature.
Pelini recently made his in-home visit to Tanner’s house in Highland, Illinois. According to a story in the Omaha World-Herald, Pelini challenged the 6-foot-4, 315-pound Farmer to a wrestling match in the Farmers’ living room.
Here’s how it went down.
“I bet you can’t take me down,” Pelini apparently joked to Farmer, who was also an Illinois state champion heavyweight wrestler.
“Go on, boy,” Farmer’s dad told him. “If he wants to go, go.”
“You scared to take me down?” Pelini asked.
Farmer then “got Pelini in a hold and lifted him up in the air” before a possible takedown “turned into a big hug between coach and player.”
Here’s to hoping there is video of this somewhere.
