LaDarius Brown, one of TCU’s top wide receivers in 2013, was arrested Sunday night for marijuana possession, according to TCU360.com. Fort Worth police reportedly seized his vehicle and about two ounces of marijuana after making a traffic stop just before midnight Sunday.
As a result of the arrest, the school announced Tuesday that Brown had been kicked off the team.
Per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the school’s statement reads:
“Due to a violation of team rules, LaDarius Brown has been removed from our football program. This is very unfortunate. We provide our student-athletes with all the guidelines and principles to be successful on and off the field. At some point, they have to govern themselves. It’s a sad day for everyone.”
The rising junior was tied for the team’s lead in receptions last season with 36. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound receiver also was third on the team with 393 receiving yards and caught two touchdowns. As a freshman, Brown caught 27 passes for 385 yards and five touchdowns.
Four TCU players were busted on charges of selling drugs back in 2012 and were subsequently expelled from the school. Additionally, quarterback Casey Pachall left school the same year after being charged with DWI and also admitting that he smoked marijuana and tried cocaine and ecstasy. Pachall later returned to the team for his senior season in January 2013 after completing treatment.
