A day after apologizing for posting a rant on Facebook about Texas A&M, TCU assistant athletic director Greg Featherston resigned Saturday.

“I have decided to resign from my position at TCU,” Featherston said in a statement. “I sincerely apologize to all those offended by the post on my personal Facebook page. For the betterment of TCU, a place I care deeply about, it is best that I move on.”

Featherston originally posted the comments on his Facebook page on Wednesday. He shared a link to a story about A&M’s plan to leave 12 empty seats at the soon-to-be-renovated Kyle Field to honor the 12 students who passed away in a bonfire collapse in 1999.

With the shared link, he said that if the number of students in the accident who passed away didn’t match up with the number 12 – which represents “The 12th man” – then the school would not have honored those students.

“If the number of students that were victims of what amounted to drunken, negligent homicide on part of that cow college didn’t match so perfectly with the cult’s favorite number, I doubt you would have seen anything like this done,” the message, in part, said.

In his apology Friday, Featherston, who had worked in the school’s compliance department for the past three years, said that what he posted was in bad taste and that it was not his intention to “disrespect the fallen students or minimize the magnitude of the disaster.”

In light of Featherston’s resignation on Saturday, TCU athletic director Chris Del Conte said in the same release: “We have accepted Greg’s resignation and wish him the best.”
