While Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Jameis Winston is more known for his prowess on the gridiron, the Florida State two-sport athlete is no slouch on the diamond either.
Winston, a hard-throwing relief pitcher and outfielder, was drafted in the 15th round of the MLB Draft by the Texas Rangers before enrolling at Florida State. Winston takes baseball seriously. In fact, his father reiterated Wednesday that Winston plans to play one more season of baseball and two more seasons of football before pursuing a professional career.
He’s been playing baseball all his life, as evidenced by a photo of his little league card from third grade he posted on Instagram Thursday afternoon.
After he redshirted his freshman year on the football team, he for a .235 average and a .377 on-base percentage with nine RBIs while also registering a 3.00 earned run average in 27 innings pitched for the Seminoles baseball squad.
His sophomore campaign was better on the mound where he put up a miniscule 1.08 ERA and seven saves in 33.1 innings pitched. Winston struggled at the plate however, registering just five hits in 39 at-bats for a .128 average.
