Washington State LB Ivan McLennan was arrested Sunday for pointing a pellet gun at a student.
He was arrested after a student called Pullman, Wash., police when McLennan allegedly pointed an Airsoft gun in the student's direction in a parking lot.
When police arrived on the scene, McLennan and another person were playing with the guns that do not shoot bullets. McLennan was cited with a gross misdemeanor for the incident. Why?
"He had been contacted about three weeks ago by us, the Pullman Police Department, and warned for this exact same thing,” Pullman police commander Chris Tennant told the Spokesman-Review. “That didn't apparently stop his activity so he was given a criminal citation.”
While playing in public with a gun that can be easily mistaken for a lethal one is a bad idea, it's an especially bad one to continue to do so after previously being warned by police. And when coupled with the shooting at Seattle Pacific University on June 5, it's an even worse one.
McLennan was a redshirt last season after transferring from El Camino Junior College. According to Rivals, he was a three-star prospect out of El Camino in the class of 2013. He is expected to compete for a backup job in 2014.
