Central Florida's George O'Leary said he didn't know where a report that said he was considering retiring came from.
"I don’t know anything about that stuff and where that came from," O'Leary said to the Orlando Sentinel Saturday night. "I never spoke to anybody from Fox or anybody. I don’t have any idea what that’s about.”
On Saturday, Fox Sports reported that O'Leary was "strongly considering" retiring in 2014, even as early as after UCF's game against Penn State. The Knights play the Nittany Lions in Ireland on August 30. The report said that if O'Leary stepped down, UCF assistant head coach of offense Brent Key would take over.
O'Leary, 68 on August 17, has been Central Florida's coach since 2004. UCF won the 2014 Fiesta Bowl over Baylor after winning the AAC. A spokesperson for UCF told Fox that there had been no retirement discussions surrounding O'Leary and the Sentinel cited two sources saying they were unaware of a timeline for O'Leary's retirement.
O'Leary coached at Georgia Tech from 1994-2001. In 2001 he was initially hired as Notre Dame's coach, but resigned shortly after he was hired because of inaccuracies on his resume.
In O'Leary's first season at Central Florida he was 0-11 but in 10 seasons there he has a record of 72-56.
