Texas A&M has its successor to Johnny Manziel.

Coach Kevin Sumlin named Kenny Hill the team's starting quarterback for the season opener against South Carolina on August 28.

"The competition was close and that competition will continue to help us improve," Sumlin said via AggieYell.com. "I have talked to both quarterbacks as well as the team and we will prepare with Kenny getting the first-team reps."

Hill, a sophomore, was competing with true freshman Kyle Allen. Hill played a bit in blowouts last year, completing 16-22 passes and rushing for 37 yards. He's the only QB on Texas A&M's roster who has played a regular season game.

Much like Manziel, Hill already has a pre-starting gig mugshot. In March, Hill was arrested for public intoxication. However, his shirt was on in the mugshot. Before he won Texas A&M's starting job in 2012 (and subsequently the Heisman Trophy), Manziel was arrested for disorderly conduct and took a shirtless mugshot.

If Texas A&M's defense is much-improved like many people think it will be in 2014, the pressure to carry the team like Manziel did won't weigh nearly as heavily on Hill. However, that's still a bit of an if and Texas A&M has an incredibly tough schedule this season. Texas A&M is the only school in the country to play all three of the SEC's preseason top 10 teams on the road.

Hill was a four-star quarterback in the Class of 2013 according to Rivals. He played QB at Southlake Carroll in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, a school that's produced former Missouri QB Chase Daniel and former Alabama QB Greg McElroy.

Allen was a five-star recruit out of Arizona and the No. 1 QB in the class of 2014.
