Apparently, the #hashtag is the new trend in college football.
Michigan announced Wednesday that it was adding the hashtag #GOBLUE to each of its 25-yard lines for its spring football game.
Hashtags are a Twitter phenomenon used to group certain posts together. Perhaps the plan is to get everyone watching the Michigan spring game to tweet with the hashtag #GOBLUE and get the event trending on Twitter. If it trends, it means its one of the most talked about subjects going on at that particular time.
Michigan isn't the first team to do this. Mississippi State put #HAILSTATE in its end zones — all the way across its end zones - for last year's Egg Bowl against Ole Miss.
Michigan's message is a little more subtle, but it's still interesting that such a storied program is trying to jump to the front of what could be a mainstay on college fields across the country.
