Division II A&M-Commerce scores 98, Tusculum gives up -100 yards on Thursday

Texas A&M-Commerce did more than hang half a hundred on East Texas Baptist Thursday night. They almost got the whole hundred.

Division II A&M-Commerce fell just two points short, beating ETBU 98-20. ETBU is a Division III school.

Tusculum, another DII school, "allowed" -100 total yards and -124 rushing yards to College of Faith, North Carolina. Those are both NCAA records.

However, College of Faith is also classified as a DIII school and offers online degree programs. It averaged -3.6 yards per carry and QB Travis Singleton was 7-12 for 24 yards.

College of Faith president Sherwyn Thomas told the Tulsa World "We’re playing football because we can.”

Thomas also said that the school is 100 percent online. “I do all of the teaching right now.”

Commerce is the school of former Texas RB Joe Bergeron, who was dismissed from the Longhorns earlier in the year. Bergeron ran for 134 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries. Three A&M-Commerce players had two rushing touchdowns.

Some other crazy statistics from that game, though given the division differences between the teams, they're worth taking with a grain of salt or two:

• The three A&M-Commerce players who ran for two touchdowns also had over 100 yards rushing.

• Three A&M-Commerce receivers also had over 100 yards receiving.

• Tyrik Rollison, a former four-star recruit according to Rivals who once committed to Auburn, threw for 562 yards and six touchdowns. The halftime score was 57-20 and 402 of Rollison's yards came in the first half.

The game made SportsCenter, and while it was a 78-point loss, the SID for East Texas Baptist didn't seem too disappointed with the score because of the game's notoriety.
