Not much has gone right for Northwestern Saturday afternoon against Iowa, but Wildcats’ wide receiver Mike McHugh hauled in one of the best catches of the year.
Trailing 38-7 in the third quarter, Northwestern quarterback Trevor Siemian looked for McHugh inside the 5-yard line. The ball was thrown high and toward the sideline, but that was no problem for the 6-foot-3 McHugh.
As you can see, he caught the pass with his right hand and managed to get his left foot inbounds for a 24-yard gain. The field judge initially ruled it incomplete, but it was correctly changed to a catch following a replay review.
Here’s a better look:
McHugh’s acrobatic catch set up a first and goal, but Iowa’s defense stuffed the Wildcats on a goal line stand. McHugh’s efforts went to waste and Northwestern fell 48-7.
