Senior tight end Jake Stoneburner and junior offensive lineman Jack Mewhort have been indefinitely suspended from the Ohio State football team following weekend arrests for misdemeanor charges of obstructing official business.
Police spotted Stoneburner, Mewhort and another man, who had no connection with the football team, urinating on the side of a restaurant near Stoneburner's house. When police shined their spotlight on them, the three men ran not knowing the light belonged to police, according to the player's lawyer, Mark Collins. Stoneburner and Mewhort were stopped about 40 yards away.
Their arraignment is June 11, but Collins said he hopes to get the issues solved before then. In the meantime, Ohio State has barred the players, whom coach Urban Meyer had claimed to be two of the team's leaders, from all activities and the football facilities.
Stoneburner tied for the team led in catches last season while Mewhort started at guard last year, but moved to left tackle this year to help anchor the offensive line.
