We wrote on signing day about how Penn State head coach James Franklin accidentally dialed the wrong number when trying to FaceTime with signee Shareef Miller.
Instead he reached Penn State fan Aleem Medley, who was shocked to see coach Franklin’s face on the other end. Thankfully, the funny moment was captured on camera. Take a look.
Franklin told ESPN.com on Wednesday that he thought it was a relative of Miller who answered the phone at first. He quickly realized that he misdialed Miller’s number.
"I guess we were off a digit," Franklin said. "This guy comes on the screen and we're trying to call Shareef Miller and I'm thinking, 'This must be Shareef's older brother or someone I haven't met yet,' and the guy's got a huge smile on his face. He goes, 'Coach Franklin!' And I'm like, 'Yeah! What's going on? Congratulations!' He's looking at me like I'm crazy. He goes, 'Coach, I think you've got the wrong number, but this is awesome! It's national signing day! Thanks for calling!'"
Franklin took the mishap in stride and tweeted about it on Thursday.
“That was classic,” Franklin said. “That’s a story that will go down for the ages. It was so funny.”
Medley said the call from Franklin made his day.
"I was just so stoked," Medley told ESPN.com on Wednesday. "That was the best news I had in a while. I'm on cloud nine right now."
