Defensive tackle Justin Manning is not with Texas A&M for spring practice but is expected back for the summer and the 2015 season according to coach Kevin Sumlin.
“People go through different things at different times,” Sumlin said via AggieSports.com. “He’s taking a leave of absence for personal reasons. A lot of times, we just think about football. [But] a lot goes on in young people’s lives.
“We’ve had different guys at different times that things happen and I think people outside don’t understand.”
After redshirting in 2013, Manning played in five games in 2014 and had three tackles.
He was a highly-touted recruit out of high school. A four-star player according to Rivals, Manning was the No. 6 defensive tackle in the country, the No. 10 player in the state of Texas and the No. 96 player overall.
Sumlin heavily emphasized Manning's life outside of football. It was similar to a refrain said in a different context by Oklahoma LB Eric Striker after the SAE racist video that surfaced on Sunday night.
“He just had a lot going on,” Sumlin said. “We work with our young guys and there’s more to it than just football.”
According to AggieYell.com, DL Myles Garrett participated in Tuesday's practice without any sort of brace on either hand after having ligament surgery in late January.
