The bad news keeps coming for Alabama.
Freshman running back Bo Scarbrough, a five-star recruit in the 2014 class, suffered a knee injury after scoring two touchdowns during the Crimson Tide’s scrimmage on Friday. Head coach Nick Saban acknowledged the injury after practice but was unsure of the severity. Unfortunately for the Tide, Scarbrough’s injury is a torn ACL, according to TideSports.com.
Scarbrough’s injury is the latest blow to the Crimson Tide’s depth at running back. Tyren Jones was dismissed from the program on Monday after a marijuana arrest and Altee Tenpenny transferred earlier in the offseason. Additionally, the Tide lost wide receiver Cam Sims to a torn ACL earlier in the week.
“Bo was doing pretty well, but we’ve had injuries, suspensions, and lost some people at that position. So what seemed like a pretty strong position for us depth-wise has gotten a little thin,” Saban said after the scrimmage.
With the 6-foot-2, 240-pound Scarbrough going down, the Tide only has two other scholarship backs at full strength this spring – standout junior starter Derrick Henry and true freshman DeSherrius Flowers. Meanwhile, senior Kenyan Drake is still on the mend from an October leg injury and Damien Harris – the nation’s top running back recruit – is set to enroll this summer.
That running back depth will be put to the test in Alabama’s A-Day spring game on April 18 at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
