Three months after Coastal Carolina announced its plans to install teal turf at Brooks Stadium, it appears the project has reached completion.

According to the school, the resurfacing process began in January with the removal of the natural grass and installation of drainage systems. The first pieces of the teal-colored turf were put down on April 2. Now, less than a week later, what you see above looks to be the final product.

“When the decision to install an artificial turf field was made, it only made sense that the turf be teal,” said athletic director Matt Hogue. “In addition to our winning tradition, we are known nationally for our distinctive color scheme. And it’s not just the color our teams wear, but a campus-wide identity. We felt this would be a great opportunity to further build that brand.”

The school said that the decision to go with turf over natural grass stemmed from challenges associated with practice space. Turf also provides “a safe and durable option if there is inclement weather,” the school said. In addition to football, Brooks Stadium also holds women’s lacrosse.

With the field not ready for play, the Chanticleers, who went 12-2 and were Big South co-champions last season, will play their April 11 spring game at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach.
