Michigan announced Thursday night that Rudock, a transfer from Iowa, will join the program as a graduate student and will be eligible to play immediately.

“I am excited for Jake to get here and compete with the quarterbacks that we already have in the program,” said Michigan quarterbacks coach Jedd Fisch. “I’ve known Jake for a long time, since 2011, and I am excited to be a part of the staff that is now coaching him.”

Rudock, a two-year starter at quarterback for Iowa, decided to transfer last month after falling behind C.J. Beathard on the depth chart. Even though Rudock is a graduate transfer, he needed a waiver from the Big Ten to transfer within the conference. According to multiple reports, the Big Ten granted his waiver last week.

Rudock started 25 games over the past two seasons for the Hawkeyes and threw for a combined 4,819 yards, 34 touchdowns and 18 interceptions.

"I think that Jake brings great maturity and experience to the program," Fisch said. "He has 25 starts under his belt in the Big Ten and a winning record of 15-10. All of that, combined with the quarterbacks we currently have in the program and all the skill we are surrounding him with, we are excited about the things that Jake can do for our program."

Rudock is set to join a crowded quarterback group at Michigan. Junior Shane Morris competed with redshirt freshman Wilton Speight and true freshman Alex Malzone during spring practice. Additionally, true freshman Zach Gentry and Houston transfer John O’Korn will also join the program this summer.

According to Michigan, Rudock is on schedule to graduate from Iowa this spring with a degree in interdepartmental studies/multidisciplinary sciences. At Michigan he will pursue a master’s degree in movement science in UM’s School of Kinesiology.
