Angie Gallaher is going to be coaching Arkansas State's spring game
The school auctioned off the opportunity for a fan to be the honorary coach in the spring game for the second straight season and Gallaher won the auction with a bid of $8,700.
“I love Red Wolves football, so this is an awesome opportunity after having followed the team and coaches for so long,” Gallaher said in a team statement. “I go to practices, have been to Mobile the last three years [for the GoDaddy Bowl] and I get more into it every year, so I thought why not take another step and be coach for the day. I think this is a great thing A-State is doing. It will certainly be a learning experience, and I’m looking forward to it.”
You know you're a superfan when you've gone to the GoDaddy Bowl for the past three seasons. The only other person who can say that may be Danica Patrick and she's probably not bringing it up in random conversations.
Gallaher is the owner of a realty company which sponsors Arkansas State coach Blake Anderson's coach's show. And in his press release statement, Anderson made sure to note Gallaher is the first female head coach in FBS history. Which is kind of true, but also really not.
“We are excited to have the first female FBS head coach in the nation, which will give us a pretty unique twist to our spring game, and we can’t wait to get her more involved,” Anderson said. “Angie is a big-time supporter of our program and a huge fan, so it will be a lot of fun for our staff, players and fans to have someone so familiar with our team taking on this role.”
Gallaher's bid is $3,000 less than the winning bid last year even though she gets to pick a friend to coach the other team. If you would have won the auction, would you choose a good friend no matter their football acumen or would you make sure to pick a friend who didn't know much about football? If it'd be the latter in an attempt to guarantee a win, we wouldn't judge.
