Duke sophomore wide receiver Blair Holliday is in a coma after an accident while jet skiing on the Fourth of July.
According to tweets from friends and teammates, Holliday was riding a Jet Ski when it collided with another Jet Ski while riding on Lake Tillery in North Carolina.
Duke released a statement regarding Holliday's condition: "On Wednesday, Blair Holliday was involved in a boating accident on Lake Tillery, and was transported via air to the UNC Trauma Center in Chapel Hill. He suffered head injuries and is currently in critical condition."
Iowa State wide receiver Brett Medders, who was a high school teammate of Holliday's tweeted Thursday: "ay yall pray for my high school teammate Blair Holliday. Collided with another jet ski on a lake and is in a coma. please RT and PRAY."
Duke coach David Cutcliffe also offered his thoughts in the university's statement:
"First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers are with Blair, his parents, Leslie and Rick, and the entire Holliday family. The Holliday family is one of tremendous character and strength, and is truly an inspiration for all of us. Secondly, we could not be more appreciative of the care and support Blair has received here at UNC Hospitals. The doctors, nurses and support staff have been truly outstanding.
"We ask that you continue to keep Blair and his family in your thoughts, and also respect their privacy in this time of concern."
Holliday played in 10 career games and had just three catches for 30 total yards, but he was slated to start for the Blue Devils this season. He also won Duke's Most Improved Offensive Player award following spring drills.
