Bryce Dixon, USC’s projected starter at tight end, is no longer enrolled at the school, the program announced Thursday.
Dixon, a sophomore, missed all of spring practice due to what was termed a “student-conduct issue.” Per TrojanSports.com, head coach Steve Sarkisian repeatedly declined to comment on Dixon’s situation throughout the spring. Dixon was also suspended for the Cal game last season, but returned the following week against UCLA.
It is unknown if the two situations are related.
Aside from its brief announcement that Dixon was no longer a student, the school declined to comment on the situation, per the Los Angeles Times.
The 6-foot-4, 240-pound Dixon caught 14 passes for 198 yards and four touchdowns as a true freshman in 2014 and was expected to play a larger role in the offense in 2015.
Dixon’s departure leaves redshirt junior Jalen Cope-Fitzpatrick as the team’s only scholarship tight end. Cope-Fitzpatrick, who sat out the entire 2014 season due to academic issues, has three career catches for 16 yards. Redshirt sophomore Connor Spears, a walk-on, shared time with Cope-Fitzpatrick as the first-team tight end throughout the spring.
Additionally, the Trojans will welcome four-star freshman Tyler Petite and Oklahoma graduate transfer Taylor McNamara later in the summer.
