Baylor DE Shawn Oakman is an athletic freak. And at a listed 6-9 and 280 pounds, his freakishness is even more impressive.
Need an example of his athleticism? Here he is performing a box jump with 70-pound dumbbells in his hands.
It's important to note that it's not actually a 40-inch weighted vertical or even close to one. Look at how Oakman's thigh's are parallel to the ground – that distance gets subtracted from the height of the jump.
But still, it's an impressive feat, no doubt. We're not sure how many of you would actually be able to elevate a centimeter with 140 pounds in your hands.
And we're also not sure why Oakman is doing the weighted jumps in the first place. Yes, they look – and are – incredibly cool, and are a good way to improve explosive hip extension, a key component of playing defensive end.
However, they're an incredibly high-risk exercise. One slip or missed jump can lead to catastrophe, especially without free hands. We're not sure how happy Baylor coach Art Briles would be if his star defender missed time because of an injury suffered while doing weighted box jumps.
