Braxton Miller is a native of Ohio. He didn't want to finish his college career outside of the state.
Yes. He's officially staying at Ohio State. If you're surprised, you haven't been paying attention.
The Buckeye quarterback told the Columbus Dispatch that he was contacted by other schools after Ohio State's run to the 2015 College Football Playoff title without him, but that he didn't want to go through with a transfer after coming off a second shoulder surgery.
“I look on the internet, and I see things forever on my timeline – Instagram, Twitter – that had me transferring to all types of different schools and stuff like that,” Miller said. “It was kind of a big controversy at the time but, you know, I had to keep my head on straight.
“Schools reached out, they reached out hard, and I kept my head where it needed to be, and I stayed smart with my situation.” Because, as he pointed out, “It was kind of tough for me and my family to go through that situation, the second (shoulder) surgery and stuff like that.”
Alabama was mentioned as a likely transfer spot for Miller, but that might have simply been because his doctor, Dr. James Andrews, is located in Birmingham, Alabama and Miller was making regular trips to see him.
Miller had shoulder surgery after Ohio State lost to Clemson in the 2014 Orange Bowl. After rehabbing the shoulder throughout the srping, he reinjured his right shoulder while throwing a pass during an August practice. He missed the entire season.
J.T. Barrett started for Miller and broke many of his records. Barrett was then hurt against Michigan and Cardale Jones went 3-0 as a starter against Wisconsin, Alabama and Oregon.
While Miller wasn't shy about his athleticism, he made it clear that he didn't want to switch positions in lieu of competing against Barrett and Jones. He said he feels good and is throwing every day but isn't classified at 100 percent just yet because he doesn't have full rotation in his arm.
“Absolutely. ... God put me on this earth ... to be an athlete, and the first thing in mind is being a quarterback, and just be smart about what I do,” Miller said.
He indicated he will embrace a competition with Barrett and Jones once preseason camp begins.
“I know who I am as a person. I know who I am as an athlete,” Miller said. “As it stands right now, I know I am the best athlete in college football. If any competition wants to come my way, I’ve just got to be smart about things and just stay looking forward.”
There you have it. The three-man competitionfor Ohio State's quarterbacking job is now as official as it can be. Who do you think will take the first snap of the season?
